There are many factors that can impact sales conversions of your products and services. Need a few examples? How about your:
- Online presence
- Traffic and targeting
- Integrations
- Sales funnels
- Offer structure
- Sales processes
- Customer service
The list goes on and on, but when it comes to the sales copy in your funnels, there are five strategies that will help your funnels perform better and create higher sales conversions. These five strategies are less about the actual words you use and more about the behind-the-scenes information you need to dial in on for best results. And guess what? They all start with the letter C.
- Capture
- Connect
- Communicate
- Convert
- Conquer
In this article, I’m going to break down the impact each of these five steps has. Ready? Let’s get started!
Capture Your Target Audience’s Attention
The first thing sales copy must do before anything else is capture the target audience’s attention. Your goal is to get them to take action in your funnel, but without attention, they’ll never get to the point of sales conversions.
If you can’t get people to click on your ads or opt into your funnel, your sales copy may not be capturing your target audience’s attention. You only have about three seconds to grab the reader and keep them engaged in the copy, so you have to do it right away in the first few lines of ad copy, email subject line, and sales funnel headlines.
I see a lot of people using headline formulas and fill-in-the-blanks. There’s nothing wrong with that … UNLESS you haven’t done the behind-the-scenes work to really uncover what captures your specific target audience’s attention. What works for one audience may not work for another, and sales conversions are sure to suffer.
It’s always important to test those hooks and headlines. Create multiple versions to have at the ready so that if one doesn’t work, you’re ready to queue up the next one. Your sales conversions may depend on it.
Connect With The Target Audience Personally
Yes, brand loyalty is important, but research shows that sales conversions happen much more easily (and with less cost) when there’s a sense of relationship and trust between the brand and the target audience. People buy from people, and they especially buy from people they know, like, and trust.
Building connection may seem like an afterthought. “Well, once I have an audience, THEN I’ll build connection and trust.”
The problem with that line of thinking is that connection and trust is HOW you build an audience. Neglecting this step in the process will affect your sales conversions because not only will you not have as many people to market to, but the people who are in your sales ecosystem will need more nurturing and warming up before they’ll buy.
Any time is a good time to connect with your target audience, and connection can take place on any platform – your website, social media, YouTube channel, email, and more. So don’t be afraid to show up where your ideal clients and customers are and be authentic and real with people.
Communicate the Offer’s Value Clearly
It’s easy for us to fall in love with our own offers and assume that everyone else can see and recognize how amazing they are. When we do that, though, we’re blinding ourselves to the fact that there’s probably a lot the target audience doesn’t know about your offers that they need you to communicate with them.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking everyone is on the same page with you. You must meet the target audience at their own level of understanding, then come alongside them and communicate what they need to know.
Ask yourself what’s unique about the offer, and be ready with an answer for how your thing will solve their problem(s) when nothing else has. Stack that value and be clear about what’s included, even if it seems super obvious to you.
Convert Like Crazy
Once you have their attention and trust and have clearly communicated the offer with them, it’s time to make the ask and start stacking those sales conversions. There are several ways you can help your sales copy along when it comes to the call to action (CTA).
The first thing you want to make sure of is that the CTA is plain and visible. No hidden buttons or hard-to-find sign up forms. The readers shouldn’t have to scroll long before seeing a Buy Now button.
If it’s a longer sales page, make sure you have CTAs and buttons throughout the funnel at regular intervals. People will decide to buy at different parts of the funnel, and you can’t expect them to all wait until the very end. If you’re noticing people click the ads and hit the landing page but not getting the opt-ins, it could be that they just didn’t find where to sign up or that the instructions for what you want them to do were confusing.
Conquer Objections to Sales
No matter how good the offer is, there will always be some members of your target audience who will hesitate before clicking the Buy Now button and never take that next step.
Many times to reason for funnel dropouts like this is because the sales copy hasn’t effectively addressed sales objections. Objections exist whether you acknowlege them or not, and ignoring them won’t make them go away. Don’t be afraid to offer up case studies, reviews, and testimonials as a way to put your target audience’s minds at ease.
